(JPN) Pioneer Square - Tallest Building Competition (Japanese)
Pioneer Square was the downtown of Seattle a 100 years ago. The devastating "Great Fire of 1889" restarted Seattle. A replacement Seattle had to be built quickly, and this created the contest for the title of the tallest building in Seattle. The winner was a building so tall that it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi for 50+ years. This tour begins at 101 Yesler Way across from Pioneer Park. It can be easily accessed from Pier 55 by riding the southbound #99 bus to 101 Yesler Way. The tour is 6 blocks of level and slight grade walking. Tour length for most people: 40 minutes.
